After launching the new Nia Photo & Film website, I found myself reflecting on everything that went into bringing this new season of the brand to life, including investing in my own brand photography.
As a Jacksonville Brand Photographer, I spend a lot of time helping business owners create purposeful visuals for their businesses. But stepping in front of the camera for my own brand session gave me a different perspective.
It reminded me why investing in your visuals matters, what it actually feels like to be the person in front of the camera and why your brand photography should continue to evolve alongside your business.
Here are three lessons I walked away with that may help you think differently about your own visuals.
As business owners, it’s easy to spend so much time serving clients and taking care of the day-to-day needs of the business that investing back into our own brand gets pushed further down the list.
I’ve been there, too.
But your photos and videos are often someone’s first introduction to your business. Before a potential client sends an inquiry, schedules a call or ever has the opportunity to meet you, your visuals are already communicating something about who you are and the experience you provide.
Professional brand photography isn’t simply about having beautiful photos. Your images can support your website, social media, marketing materials, speaking opportunities, launches and so much more.
Seeing my own images throughout the new Nia Photo & Film website reminded me that the right visuals have a job to do.
Even as a photographer, I was a little nervous stepping in front of the camera for my own session!
It reminded me how vulnerable it can feel to be the face of something you’ve worked so hard to build.
But you don’t have to walk into a brand session knowing exactly how to pose, where to put your hands or what to do in front of the camera. That’s where having the right photographer and experience matters.
With direction and support throughout your session, you have space to relax, be yourself and allow your personality to come through.
Sometimes the confidence doesn’t come before you show up. It comes as you show up.
Think about the business you had one, two or even three years ago.
Are you offering the same services? Serving the same audience? Showing up in the same way? Does your client experience look exactly the same?
For many business owners, the answer is no.
As your services, audience and overall experience evolve, your visuals should reflect those changes too. Otherwise, potential clients may be meeting an older version of your business before they ever get the opportunity to experience what you offer today.
Your visuals should help people see where your business is now while also supporting where you’re headed next.
Take a look at your website, social media and the other places you’re showing up online and ask yourself:
If someone discovered my business today based only on my current photos and videos, would they see the business I’ve worked so hard to build?
Not whether your photos are simply “pretty enough.”
Do they communicate who you are, what you do, who you serve and the level of experience you provide today?
Sometimes your business has already grown, but your visuals haven’t caught up yet.
And if you can relate to that, you don’t have to have all the ideas, outfits, locations or details figured out before reaching out. Helping you think through those pieces is part of the brand photography experience.
If you’re a business owner in Jacksonville or the surrounding area and you’re ready for visuals that better represent where your business is now, Brand Sessions are available through November 11th.
